Interested in Volunteering With Us?

Over the past few months SLU has had several inquiries from young people who wanted to get involved in our movement. Here is your opportunity to join the cause!

The SLU Volunteer Day has been organized to introduce all those interested, to the work of our organization and provide you with a better understanding of our areas of work. Following this you will have the opportunity to support us by volunteering in any of our sub committees.

SLU Volunteer Day will be held on 11th December from 3.30pm onwards at the Royal College Skills Center.

Come, Look, Try!

From Conflict to Cricket

We recently donated cricket equipment to conflict-affected schools in the North of Sri Lanka - Kilinochchi Central College (Kilinochchi) and Vattrapal Mahavidyalaya (Mullativu).

We have also planned a cricket coaching camp on the 7th of January 2011 at Kilinochchi Central grounds for schools in the Mullativu and Kilinochchi districts. The camp will be led by the former Ananda College (Colombo) cricket coach, Anura Silva.

This effort is being supported by the Foundation of Goodness (http://www.unconditionalcompassion.org/indexc.php)

Strengthening Our Grassroots Network

Over the past two months members of the Sri Lanka Unites team have been visiting schools in our network from across the country. For us, our SLU members in schools in every district are the heart of our movement. They are what makes SLU what it is. They are the dynamic, motivated and innovative young students who are undertaking reconciliation initiatives at their school and community level.

So far, we have completed school relations visits to Gampaha, Ampara, Batticaloa, Galle, Colombo, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy. At each district-level visit, we conducted workshops for between 250-1,000 students. Several schools that attended the Future Leaders' Conference in August 2009 and 2010 have gone back to their districts and started up their own SLU Clubs, as well as linked up with other schools to help them start SLU Clubs as well. The reconciliation spirit is steadily spreading, and our young members are proving to be true 'Champions of Change'(c).

More Schools Join SLU Network

Leading schools in Galle, Al Mira Girls' School and Sacred Heart Convent, are the latest to join the growing network of Sri Lanka Unites. With the leadership of the SLU Club in Sangamiththa Girls School, who attended the 2nd annual Future Leaders' Conference in August this year, these two schools started their own SLU chapters, and SLU President and other team members visited the schools to conduct workshops.
