Strengthening Our Grassroots Network

Over the past two months members of the Sri Lanka Unites team have been visiting schools in our network from across the country. For us, our SLU members in schools in every district are the heart of our movement. They are what makes SLU what it is. They are the dynamic, motivated and innovative young students who are undertaking reconciliation initiatives at their school and community level.

So far, we have completed school relations visits to Gampaha, Ampara, Batticaloa, Galle, Colombo, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy. At each district-level visit, we conducted workshops for between 250-1,000 students. Several schools that attended the Future Leaders' Conference in August 2009 and 2010 have gone back to their districts and started up their own SLU Clubs, as well as linked up with other schools to help them start SLU Clubs as well. The reconciliation spirit is steadily spreading, and our young members are proving to be true 'Champions of Change'(c).
