3rd of February 2012 - A Milestone in Our Journey

On the 3rd of February, the new Sri Lanka Unites Office at No. 113, Kynsey Road, Colombo -07, was opened. The opening ceremony, which was attended by our respected Trustees, members of the National Team and the Junior Team. We integrated cultural elements such as lighting of the oil lamp, "kolam" (a Tamil floor decoration, done using coloured rice powder or coconut powder), Hewisi drummers and Traditional dresscode, into the opening ceremony giving it a unique flavour.

The Office was opened by Mr. Kushil Gunasekara, a member our Board of Trustees, following which the Trustees were taken around the office premises. This was followed by breakfast, which was again a fusion of Sinhala and Tamil cultures, comprising of "Kiribath" (Milk Rice) and "Sakarai Pongal" (Tamil version of Milk Rice).

The Opening Ceremony was followed by a Trustees Meetting, during which the Trustees were updated on everything Sri Lanka Unites has done in the past year, and also briefed on the plans for the year 2012. Then the floor was opened to the Trustees, during which they shared their invaluable ideas and suggestions on how we can better meet our targets.

Following this, around 11.00 a.m., we hosted a Press Conference, during which we briefed the journalists from both Print Media and Television Channels about our School Relations Tour 2011. Members of the Junior Team also were given the opportunity to share their experiences while on this historic journey around the Island. This was followed by an Award Ceremony during which the Junior Team members were inducted and awarded for their participation and contribution towards the tour.

The 3rd of February, 2012 was definitely a milestone in the journey of Sri Lanka Unites, since it was the day when the historic journey around the Island officially came to an end, only to begin a new Journey leading to Future Leaders' Conference 4.

FLC 4, which is to be held is Jaffna is yet another mammoth task before us towards which we continue to work, remembering that....
