From this week we will be blogging weekly on the preparations in the run-up to the conference, so watch this space for all the details on the ups and downs of organising a large leadership and reconciliation event of this nature. Also follow us on twitter @SriLankaUnites for more frequent updates.
The applications from students across the country are already rolling in, with nearly 200 received so far, including from schoools in the formerly war-torn Killinochchi and Mullativu, which is indeed an encouraging sign. We are looking forward to strong participation from schools across the island to make this 4 day interaction hard-hitting on the issues, but also a celebration of diversity and an understanding of our nation's potential and challenges that need overcoming. It will also have a heavy focus on the key immediate question - "How can young people play an active and useful role in Sri Lanka's post-war reconciliation and rebuilding process?"
So, off we go in making the preparations for the conference; including fundraising efforts, refining the content/programme, finalising our speakers, and shortlisting successful student applicants.
