Role of Youth Leaders

The role of youth leaders in taking Sri Lanka into the next level of its “development” needs to be emphasized at this juncture of our history. What qualities should a good leader possess? What qualities should young people need to look for in good leaders? Professional and personal development is of great importance as if one is to lead, one must be worthy of it. As Truman stated, ‘Men (or women) make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.’ The first session for day 2 aims to set a foundation for the understanding of what good leadership is and the need for it in Sri Lanka’s future.

The speakers for this session will be Ashroff Omar, CEO of Brandix Lanka Ltd., Dr. Selvy Tiruchandran, Executive Director of the Women's Education Resource Center and Mr. Priyan Fernando, the Executive Vice President of Global Business Services at American Express and Board Director at Brandix Lanka Ltd.
